Rhel 6 Installation


RED HAT ENTERPRISE LINUX 6
Installation of RHEL 6.0 (GUI Based)

1. Insert Linux DVD into DVD-Rom and restart the machine.Linux welcome screen wizard will be open. Select Install or upgrade an existing system option on Grub Menu and Press ENTER.




2. Use TAB key and select Skip DVD media test (or select media test, if you want to test installation media before installation) and press

3. Red Hat 6 graphical installer starts, select NEXT


4. Select the installation language ENGLISH(ENGLISH) and click on NEXT.



5. Select Keyboard type U.S. ENGLISH and click on NEXT.



6. Select Basic storage Devices and click on NEXT. [ Select this option only if your hard disk is stored in the base system. if it is in network or on SAN device please select the other option ]



7. Click on re-initialize all. [ since your hard disk is raw this option of re-initializing is asked ]


8. Type the hostname and click on NEXT. [ Below you will also find configure network tab which will help you to setup your network ]



9. Select the time zone ASIA/Kolkata and click on NEXT.



10. Set root password and click on NEXT and Click on Use Anyways. [ root password is compulsory to set otherwise you will not be able to proceed to next step ]







11. Select Create custom layout and click on NEXT. [ the other four option are used for automatic creation of partition. which will only create / , /boot , and swap depending on the option you select ]



12. Click on Create and select Standard Partition.


13. Click CREATE , select mount Point /, select File system type ext4 and size 1024 (MB) and click on OK.


14. Click CREATE , select mount Point /boot, select File system type ext4 and size 200 (MB)  and click on OK.


15. Click CREATE , select mount Point /home, select File system type ext4 and size 1024 (MB)  and click on OK.
 

16. Click CREATE , select mount Point /tmp, select File system type ext4 and size 200 (MB)  and click on OK.



17. Click CREATE , select mount Point /usr, select File system type ext4 and size 10240 (MB)  and click on OK.



18. Click CREATE , select mount Point /var, select File system type ext4 and size 10240 (MB)  and click on OK.



19. Click CREATE, select File system type SWAP and size 2 x RAM (maximum size 4GB)  and click on OK.



[ The above partition can be created according to your requirement ]

20. Click on NEXT.



21. Click on FORMAT.



22. Click on Write changes to disk. [ Once this done you will not be able to go back ]



23. Now it will format all the volume that you have created for installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux .




24. Select the GRUB boot loader will be installed on /dev/sda or if you have dual boot then select which  ever operating system you want to boot default. And click in NEXT.



25. Select DESKTOP and to install default software application click on CUSTOMISE LATER  or  click on CUSTOMIZE NOW to manually select the packages you required and click on NEXT.



26. Now it will checking dependencies in packages selected for installation and click on NEXT to begin the installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server.


27. Now it will transfer the install image to hard disk.



28. Now Installation is Starting.



29. Now it will Preparing to Install.



30. Now Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6  began to install.



31. Once everything goes right you will find the screen to reboot. Now Reboot the machine.



32. Once system is rebooted you will find a post-installation screen. Welcome Screen will appear click on FORWAORD.



33. Now Click on Yes, I agree to the License Agreement and click on FORWAORD.



34. Now Setup Software Updates and click on FORWAORD.



35. Now Finish Updates Setup and click on FORWAORD. [ Since network configuration was not done during installation this process will fail. For network setup please see step 8]



36. Now create a user with password and click on FORWAORD  and click on Yes. [ this user will be a normal user ]





37. Now Set system Date and Time and  click on FORWAORD.



38. Now Set up Kdump memory and click on FORWAORD. [ This process will fail due to insufficient memory i.e less amount of RAM ]



39. Now click on FINISH.



40. Now Red Hat Login Screen will appear click on Others to login with root user or select the user and login.



41. Now type root user name and click on Log In.



42. Now type root user password and click on Log In.



43. Now root user successful logged in.
