SSH configuration

Secure Shell (SSH) is a protocol which provides a secure remote access connection to network devices. Communication between the client and server is encrypted in both SSH version 1 and SSH version 2.

Router(config)#hostname ITtables

ITtables(config)#enable secret test123

ITtables(config)#ip domain-name www.ittables.com

Note: Following command will generate an SSH key to be used with SSH.


ITtables(config)#crypto key generate rsa

The name for the keys will be: ITtables.www.ittables.com

Choose the size of the key modulus in the range of 360 to 2048 for your
  General Purpose Keys. Choosing a key modulus greater than 512 may take
  a few minutes.

How many bits in the modulus [512]: 1024
% Generating 1024 bit RSA keys, keys will be non-exportable...[OK]

ITtables(config)#line vty 0 4

ITtables(config-line)#password 123test

ITtables(config-line)#transport input ssh

ITtables(config-line)#login

ITtables(config-line)#end

 Verification:



PC>ssh -l ittables 192.168.10.1

Router#ssh -l ittables 192.168.20.1
