Telnet configuration

We will use this topology to configure telnet, there are two routers in topology R1 and R2. we will configure telnet on R2 and we will use one of the Laptop which is connected to R1 network, but actually you can access R2 from any Laptop/Location after configuring telnet.

I have already configured RIPv2 on both router so the network is fully converged.

Now lets see the commands to configure telnet on R2.

R2#configure terminal
R2(config)#enable secret ittables
R2(config)#banner login # Password Require #

Note: configuring login banner is optional, but you can use "banner login" command to configure login banner.

R2(config)#line vty 0 4

Note: By default there are 16 virtual terminal in router which are numbered 0 to 15, but right now we are opening only 5 virtual terminal line by using "line vty 0 4" command. it means we are opening 0 to 4 line number. it means you can telnet the router at a time from 5 different location.

R2(config-line)#password www.ittables.com

By using this command you will require to provide "www.ittables.com" password.

R2(config-line)#motd-banner

This command is to enable motd banner which we have configured previously. ( As i told you its a optional ).

R2(config-line)#exec-timeout 5

"exec-timeout" command is to limit your idle time in this session, in this case we are using 5 min.

R2(config-line)#login

"login" command is use to enable password checking. You can use "no login" command if you wish to enter into telnet session without prompting for password.

 R2(config-line)#end

Now lets see how to access R2 (192.168.20.2) from PC
I think you got all thing in this image.

  6. Your blog is really nice. If I may share some insight, traffic studies on blogs show most people read blogs on Mondays. So it should encourage blogger to write new updates over the weekend primarily.

  9. That was a very beautiful poem about nature especially about the everlasting power Sun. The title “Sun flakes” itself felt apt for the poem. I had a great time reading the poem. Thanks a lot for such a nice post. Please keep sharing
